Richard Derrington

Richard started to train at Rose Bruford but gave it all up after a year to go and actually do it in rep. Several seasons of that were followed by six years at the RSC (working extensively with Terry Hands, John Baird et al) and at the Old Vic where he played ‘Player King’ in HAMLET. He created a number of characters for Sir Alan Ayckbourn at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough including those in HAUNTING JULIA, VIRTUAL REALITY and NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH (the latter touring the UK before a season off-Broadway in New York) before a stint creating and playing ‘Mark Hebden’ in THE ARCHERS (BBC R4).
Richard continued in radio drama and toured most of the world with his one man shows, including an unlikely gig in Las Vegas. On TV he had guest roles in a number of popular dramas from DOC MARTIN to CASUALTY and EASTENDERS amongst many. Most recently Richard played in THE TEMPEST with Michael Pennington at Jermyn Street Theatre.
Throughout it all there has been Alan Ayckbourn who gave him a start and is still willing him to get it right!
