Katie is a freelance theatre director, facilitator and theatre-maker, she is passionate about and focused on two spheres of work: theatre that puts women centre stage and theatre for young people.
After training at St Mary’s University by completing an MA in Directing Theatre Katie became Trainee Director at the Orange Tree Theatre then attended the Directors' Course at the National Theatre Studio.
Katie returned to the Orange Tree as Education and Literary Director where she directed their Shakespeare for Schools Projects and ran the Literary Department. She was Associate Director on the National Theatre’s UK Tour of WAR HORSE and recently Associate Director for the production in China.
Katie recently directed; ALICE'S HOUSE OF CARDS and GRANDPA JO'S GIANT STORYTELLING BED (Southbank Centre & BAC), WELCOME TO THEBES and HER NAKED SKIN (Mountview) and I DREAM BEFORE I TAKE THE STAND (Orange Tree Theatre). She was recently Associate Director on LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT at Bristol Old Vic (dir: Richard Eyre).
Katie's theatre company Stand Fast Theatre launches this year with its first commission MOTHERLAND, a new play by Silva Semerciyan.
