Tom has been in the business for over 45 years, appearing in the West End in LULU and SOMEONE WAITING; at the Theatre Royal Stratford East in SWEENEY TODD and with the RSC on Broadway in LONDON ASSURANCE.
Tom made his television debut in 1968 in FREEWHEELERS followed by roles in many classic series including Z CARS, UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS, THE ONEDIN LINE, OUR MUTUAL FRIEND, THE BILL, GREAT EXPECTATIONS, AND MINDER. One of the highlights of Tom's career was working with Dame Edith Evans in HARLEQUINADE for Anglia TV. Feature films include GOODBYE MR CHIPS with Peter O’Toole; UNMAN, WITTERING & ZIGO with DAVID HEMMINGS and QUEENIE with KIRK DOUGLAS
Tom has been touring his one-man show LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE - TREADING THE BOARDS, the story of his father Bill Owen, himself and the series in which he spent 11 years. Television history was made when Tom joined the series following the death of his father, who played Compo for twenty-seven years.
Tom's greatest theatrical challenge has been Samuel Beckett’s KRAPP'S LAST TAPE which received great reviews at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and continues to play UK and international dates.
