Christopher Rozycki

Christopher was born in the small village of Ropsza just outside Lodz, Poland. He grew up under the Stalinist regime (his father was a political prisoner in Siberia for seven years as active officer in the Polish Underground Army) and at home he was surrounded by the colourful talents of the Light Operetta Theatre where his mother worked as the administrator. Christopher trained for four years at the world famous Lodz Film and Theatre School - where Polanski, Wajda, Zanussi and other great Polish film directors all began their careers. He then spent 15 years at the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Lodz, playing Shakespeare, Polish classics and comedies with time off for film, television and radio projects. Yet his greatest success during that period was in an English play - as Fancourt-Babberly in CHARLEY'S AUNT - a role he played hundreds of times in the theatre repertoire.

Christopher obtained an exit visa to London and never returned to Poland. A fateful (if incomprehensible on both sides) meeting with the Scottish film director Bill Forsyth led to his being cast in the iconic British movie LOCAL HERO. Since then he has established himself as a leading Polish actor in the UK, playing Kuba in the first four series of CASUALTY, Titus in TRULY MADLY DEEPLY and the co-lead Oleg Penkowsky in THE MAN FROM MOSCOW (aka WYNNE AND PENKOWSKY) amongst many others and most recently in forthcoming series 5 of DOWNTON ABBEY and the comedy drama series STELLA. In UK theatre, Christopher has worked with director Stephen Daldry both at the Royal Court Theatre in THE EDITING PROCESS and at the National Theatre in MACHINAL and was in ACROSS OKA at the RSC and NOTHING SACRED at Theatr Clwyd. Christopher is a fine home cook - a talent he deployed usefully as Edward de Pomiene in acclaimed tv series FRENCH COOKING IN 10 MINUTES for the BBC.
